CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - A mother was arrested after her six-year-old child overdosed on pills after allegedly being left alone in a car on Saturday.
Clarksville Police said 32-year-old Carla Maynard left the young child in her car while she mowed a nearby yard.
During that time, the child got into her purse and swallowed some of her prescription medication.
The child was found unconscious and taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. On Sunday, the child was in critical, but stable condition.
A police report states Maynard told police that she had left the windows down, had the car running with the air conditioning on, and had been checking on her child every 15 minutes. However, a witness told police that the car was not running, but the windows were down.
Maynard was booked into the Montgomery County jail on child neglect charges.
