NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police have identified a man who was found shot to death inside a car in south Nashville overnight.

The body of Frederic Grant, 25, was found inside a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo on Utopia Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Monday. After the shooting, the car rolled down the road and struck a utility pole.

Metro Police spokesperson Don Aaron said Grant had been wanted since May for a felony probation warrant stemming from a 2007 conviction on felony cocaine and aggravated assault charges.

A gun was found in Grant's waistband, but it had not been discharged.

A man had called the police non-emergency line just before 1:30 a.m. Monday to report a suspicious vehicle parked near his business.

A short time later, the man called police to report the car had ran into a utility pole. He said he saw a woman go up to the car, and discover the shooting victim.

The witness said he didn't hear shots fired in the area. Police said they had no reason to believe there was a second crime scene.

They continue to investigate, but said they did not have any suspect information.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call South Precinct Investigations at (615) 862-7763 or Crime Stoppers at (615) 74-CRIME.
