Trial Set To Begin For Former Unicoi County Sheriff
ERWIN, Tenn. (AP) - A former East Tennessee sheriff is set to go on trial Monday on two felony charges.
Former Unicoi County sheriff Kent Harris stepped down from office this year after being indicted on charges of official misconduct, tampering with evidence, criminal simulation, theft over $1,000 and attempted aggravated assault.
The Johnson City Press reported that Monday's trial will only deal only with the criminal simulation and theft charges. According to court documents, the charges stem from Harris asking for and receiving money from the county for vehicles that were actually donated to his department.
