NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Virtual Archive has a new digital collection featuring World War I hero Alvin C. York of Fentress County.
The collection includes details about York's actions in the Argonne Forest in 1918 when he helped take a heavily-defended hill from the Germans. He was the subject of the movie "Sergeant York' starring Gary Cooper.
The exhibit contains images from a scouting trip to Fentress County by the producers of "Sergeant York."
The archive is an online program of the Tennessee State Library and Archives, which provided photographs, documents and clippings for the collection.
It's at http://teva.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/landingpage/collection/p15138coll10.
