Metro Departments Raise Money For Back To School

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - With the First Day Festival no longer happening in Nashville, Mayor Karl Dean is making sure local students have everything they need to start the year off right.

"This year, as we transition away from holding the Mayor's First Day Festival, my office wanted to make sure we were doing our part to getting school supplies to our students. So we called upon our Metro department to participate in a competitive school supply drive," said Dean.

The back-to-school drive, held earlier this month raised nearly $20,000 for LP Pencil Box, a free school supply store for teachers. Educators are able to visit the store twice a year and select $250 worth of supplies for their students and classroom.

With the extra funds, over 2,000 Metro students will have all the tools to help them learn.
