Drive Raises Nearly $20K For School Supplies

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Nashville students returning to school this week are getting a little help from the city.

More than 2,000 students will receive supplies collected this month during Nashville's new back-to-school supply drive.

The mayor's office said the drive raised nearly $20,000. The LP PENCIL Box store received the donations, which educators can pick up for free.

Teachers can visit the store twice a year, choosing up to $250 in supplies for their students.

Mayor Karl Dean said he wants the drive to be an annual event.

The first day of school in Nashville is Wednesday.
