United Way Distributes Backpacks With School Supplies

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The United Way handed out school supplies to some students on their first day of school.

The organization distributed about 500 backpacks full of supplies to students at Napier Enhanced Option School on Wednesday.

Teachers were also given boxes of supplies for their students.

School leaders said it's important to get off on the right foot.

"It is critical for children to start the school year having these needed supplies so they can start the year right, the very first day," said Napier Principal Ronald Poe.

"It is very good as a parent because it helps us with stuff we can't get for them for the school year and gets us ahead on what we need for them," said parent Shoen Perry.

Six hundred students at Tusculum Elementary also got backpacks.
