Mother Pleads Not Guilty To Leaving Children Alone
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - A woman accused of leaving 19 children alone in a hot, filthy home near Bowling Green for a week has entered a not guilty plea.
The Daily News reported 32-year-old Jackie Evelyn Farah appeared Tuesday before Warren County Circuit Court Judge John R. Grise. She is facing 14 counts of criminal abuse and five counts of wanton endangerment.
On July 3, officers found the children, who range in age from 7 months old to 16 years old, after getting a call from neighbor. Police said the home had no air conditioning and one room had an inch of animal feces on the floor.
Prosecutor Chris Cohron said Farah will be represented by the public defender's office.
Meanwhile, officers are still searching for Irving "Joe" Smith, the father of some of the children. He was indicted last week on 16 counts of criminal abuse and three counts of wanton endangerment.
The couple's children are now in state custody, although some of the children staying with them were cousins, and their parents came to get them.
