Wife Gets Protective Order After Coffee Poisoned

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- A Lookout Mountain woman has gotten an order of protection against her husband after tests showed a toxic substance in her morning cup of coffee.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that the order says Liesa Hill had been ill for several months before March, when she saw her husband, Dr. Hal Hill, put something in her coffee.

The order signed by a judge on Friday says police were called, the coffee was tested and results showed it contained high levels of the toxic heavy metal barium, which can produce symptoms like the wife described.

No criminal charges had been filed as of Monday afternoon. The physician's answering service said late Monday afternoon that he had left for the day and wasn't available to comment.
