Sheriff: Child Drowns In Family's Pool

Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Police in Montgomery County are calling the drowning of a 2-year-old boy at his grandparents' home a tragic accident.

The sheriff's office was called to the home on Sunday morning where the grandparents were trying to resuscitate Jerrell McKinney, who had fallen into a pool.

Deputy Ted Denny, public information officer for the sheriff's office, told The Leaf-Chronicle that while the grandparents were sleeping, the boy unlocked a door, climbed a fence and fell into the pool.

Denny said the boy apparently wanted to let the family's puppies swim in the pool and fell in while holding one of the puppies. A surveillance video at the home captured the accident on tape.
