NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Crews battled a fire at an abandoned house near the Vanderbilt University campus on Tuesday morning.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the roof when the first firefighters got on the scene at 1502 18th Avenue South just before 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Fire officials said some of the firefighters had to be called out of the structure at one point due to the intense conditions.

Neighbors said no one has lived in the house for some time. No one was hurt.

Fire engines and other emergency vehicles blocked the road between Horton and Wedgewood Avenue as they worked to extinguish the fire.
