SHELBYVILLE, Tenn.- Police in Shelbyville are searching for armed men who robbed a local business over the weekend.
Officials said the two men robbed the Hopps Express Store on Elm Street just after 9:30 p.m. Saturday. According to police the suspects ran into the convenience store and went behind the counter looking for money. One of the men was armed with a gun, and the other was said to be carrying a knife. The owner of the store threw a bag of money at the robbers before putting his hands in the air.
One of the suspects grabbed the bag of money, while the other grabbed a box of change. The two men fled the scene in a blue older model Chevy Corisca.
Police said a group of observant teens noticed the store had just been robbed and followed the suspect's getaway car to Greystone Way and then onto Nashville Dirt Road. The teens continued to follow the car, but lost sight of it near Living Stones Church.
Officials were still searching for the suspects in this case. Anyone with information was asked to call Shelbyville Police at 931-684-5811.
