NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A local developer is working to bring another signature shape to the Nashville skyline.
Travis Kelty, the President of Impakt Real Estate, wants to build a skyscraper shaped like an acoustic guitar.
"A few years ago I came up with the idea," said Kelty. "I bought my wife a guitar, turned it on its side, and said, 'That would make a great building.'"
Plans include space for restaurants, office and residential space in the 32 story, 300,000 square foot building. The project has been named "Strings." Kelty said an architect and contractors are on board, but the site for the building hasn't been determined yet.
"We would like to see it in the Gulch if possible," said Kelty. "But we are looking at a few areas including West End, Music Row and downtown."
Kelty said he's in talks with two anchor tenants wanting to move to Nashville and is determined to see his idea become a reality.
"I think if you break it down logically, and look at the components, it isn't that different from other buildings that have been built," he said. "It's a reflection of the history and culture of Nashville and what music has brought to the city."
Kelty hopes to have the site pinned down in the next 60 days. The entire project could cost $80 to $100 million.
"This could be an iconic building for Nashville that would reach international recognition."
