Clarksville Schools No Longer Ask For Social Security Number

Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, TENN.- Clarksville Montgomery County Schools won't ask students for their social security numbers anymore following an attack by hackers earlier this summer.

Instead, the district says it will now generate its own "PowerSchool" identification numbers for students.

In June, hackers got into the system's database, and accessed the names, social security numbers, and birthdays of 4,900 employees, and 4,300 current and former students. Clarksville police, the TBI, and the FBI were still investigating.

The district has sent out notices alerting everyone whose information was compromised.
