Celebration Held To Remember Maplewood Coach

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A celebration was held at Maplewood High School Thursday night to honor the life an assistant football coach who will be laid to rest Friday.

Bryan Holt was the assistant football coach at Maplewood. At just 35-years-old he passed away last Friday following complications from sickle cell disease.

Friends, staff, coaches, students and parents put together a celebration of his life.

A 1995 graduate of Whites Creek High School, Holt attended TSU before becoming a coach. His brother Trent said it was football that eased the pain in his brother's life.

"He was getting ready for football and that right there is something that made him feel like, ‘hey, I'm a part of this world,'" Trent said. "Long as he had his boys out here and able to root them on and get them ready for this up and coming season, that's what made him live."

A funeral for Coach Holt will be held Friday at noon at Cathedral of Praise on Clarksville Highway.
