Man Shot, Killed During Home Invasion Attempt

ALLEN COUNTY, Ky. – Kentucky State Police were called out to investigate after a man was found dead following a home invasion attempt in Allen County.

Police said the attempted robber, identified as 58-year-old Steven Dale Cole of Smiths Grove, Kentucky, was fatally wounded by the homeowner after exchanging gunfire at a home on Spears Road around 5:20 p.m. Thursday.

The homeowner, identified as 58-year-old Gary L. Cole of Scottsville, Kentucky, was also hit, and taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. His condition was unknown.

Jonathan M. Biven with the KSP said the men were related, but did not clarify.
