Natasha Bates(Photo Credit: Chattanooga Times Free Press)CLEVELAND, Tenn. (AP) - A Cleveland woman whose young sons died after being left in a hot car has asked the court to give her an attorney.
According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, Natasha Bates made a brief appearance before Bradley County Criminal Court Judge Carroll Ross Monday morning and asked that a public defender be appointed for her.
The charges were read at the hearing. They include two counts of felony murder.
The 26-year-old Bates is charged in the June 28 deaths of 5-year-old Leland Bates and 3-year-old River Bates. Authorities said the boys died after being left in Natasha Bates' car at her rural Bradley County home on June 28. The medical examiner said both boys died of hyperthermia.
Natasha Bates' next court hearing was scheduled for November 19.
