Motorcyclist Killed After Striking Utility Pole In Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A motorcyclist was killed after striking a utility pole in Murfreesboro on Tuesday night.

The Murfreesboro Police Department said the crash happened around 7:15 p.m. on South Rutherford Boulevard near Lismore Drive.

A preliminary investigation found 26-year-old Martin M. Varela, of Brush Creek, was riding his motorcycle when he left the roadway and struck a utility pole. He was taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center by Rutherford County EMS and was pronounced dead.

The Fatal Accident Crash Team will investigate what caused the crash.
