TULLAHOMA, Tenn.- Officials with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office said they are close to making an arrest in the case of a woman whose body was found burning in a grassy area in Franklin County last month.
The victim was identified as 24-year-old nursing student Erika Megan Sharpton from Tullahoma. Her burning body was discovered in the early morning hours of July 2 near the Awalt Bridge in Franklin County by a motorist. Sharpton's car was later found in the middle of Three Forks Bridge in Bedford County. Investigators said a witness saw the car and thought someone had run out of gas. When no one returned he called authorities.
Officials ruled her death a homicide and detectives said preliminary reports indicated that Sharpton died of blunt force trauma.
