Simon Youth Academy At Opry Mills Re-Opens

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Thursday, the Simon Youth Academy at Opry Mills re-opened for the first time since the 2010 flood.

Metro Schools Director Dr. Jesse Register along with Mayor Karl Dean helped cut the ribbon on the all-new, state of the art Academy at Opry Mills.

The academy was forced to close after the flood in May of 2010, and moved to Hickory Hollow Mall.

The Academy at Opry Mills serves students pursuing a high school diploma in a non-traditional setting, including some at risk students.

The facility features an open concept with several adaptable learning centers.  It also features a new exterior entrance to make it more accessible from the parking lot at the mall.

The school initially opened in Opry Mills in August 2009 with the support of the Simon Youth Foundation.

The Academy's reopening expands the number of these non-traditional high school programs to three, all serving students at risk of dropping out for multiple reasons.
