Felon Back Behind Bars After Stealing Police Bait Car

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A convicted felon went back to jail Thursday after allegedly attempting to steal a Metro Nashville police bait car.

Police said Johnny Saxon took the bait set out by Metro Police Thursday afternoon.

Officials were trying to find the suspects responsible for stealing vehicles for salvage in the area. A police bait car was left on the shoulder of I-24 north of downtown and just after 2 p.m. the electronic equipment inside notified police that the car was on the move.

Detectives were able to track the car to a salvage yard on Buck Hill Road where they discovered that Saxon had tied a rope to the SUV and pulled it with his Ford Explorer off the interstate and to the salvage yard.

Saxon was arrested and charged. He has previous convictions for two felony theft counts in 2011 and received a total sentence of six years.
