Murfreesboro House Fire Started By Lightning

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Lightning was to blame for a fire that destroyed a home in Murfreesboro overnight.

The fire broke out around 1 a.m. Friday at the home on Wild Maple Court in the Gatewood Estates. Firefighters spent hours fighting the flames including putting out hot spots once the fire was extinguished.

Neighbors said that a mother and several children were inside the home, but they were able to get out safely.

Fire officials said lightning struck the house, and left a melon sized hole in the roof. The home was a total loss.

The street was blocked off for some time, but has since reopened.
