NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee State has a lot to look forward to after finishing .500 in the Ohio Valley Conference league and winning the Sgt. York Trophy from the league's three other Tennessee teams.
Sophomore Michael German, the OVC freshman of the year, is one of nine returning offensive starters. German led the Tigers to a 4-2 record after taking over by throwing for 12 TDs. Trabis Ward rushed for nearly 1,000 yards and 11 scores.
Defensive lineman Antonio Harper had 6 1/2 sacks and nine tackles for loss. Junior offensive lineman Kadeem Edwards and sophomore returner Weldon Garlington are also Preseason All-OVC picks.
The Tigers reopen the series with Florida A&M in the John Merritt Classic on September 1 and also return to their on-campus stadium for the first time since 1998.
