Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Austin Peay continues its rebuilding efforts in its seventh season back in scholarship football with 16 starters back this year.

Jake Ryan, son of former NFL quarterback Pat Ryan, threw for almost 1,500 yards and 12 TDs. Senior Devin Stark's 53 catches were third-most in the Ohio Valley Conference last season.

Nine defensive starters are back for coach Rick Christophel in his sixth year at his alma mater. Fifth-year senior safety Antwaun Majors has had over 80 tackles each of the past two seasons.

Senior Stephen Stansell needs three field goals to break the school record and was the only OVC kicker perfect on extra points (22 of 22) last season.

The Governors open at Western Kentucky before visiting No. 16 Virginia Tech a week later.
