KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Reconstruction of a downtown Knoxville bridge won't impede traffic headed for the University of Tennessee's football home opener.
The contractor on the Henley Street Bridge project reopened all four lanes of Neyland Drive near the UT campus on Friday.
Tennessee Department of Transportation project supervisor Kristin Qualls told The Knoxville News Sentinel the contractor has pushed since March to complete the bridge work on the downtown side, so the street could be open when thousands of fans pour in to watch the Georgia State-UT game on Sept. 8.
Some temporary lane closures will be needed later, but not on game days.
The $24.7 million renovation is scheduled for completion by June 30, 2013.
