JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - A Johnson City man is accused of trying to finance his girlfriend's jail bond in unusual fashion -- burglary.
The Washington County Sheriff's office said deputies arrested 23-year-old Joseph Michael Lockner on Monday night after finding him in a house that had burned. Investigators said a check of Lockner's cell phone filled in the reason why he was there without the property owner's permission.
Lockner had sent text messages to other people, stating he was at the home, hoping to steal something to sell so he could make bond for a jailed girlfriend.
Deputies charged him with burglary and driving on a suspended license. He was held Thursday at the Washington County Jail which did not have a record of an attorney for him.
