KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The heaviest man on Tennessee's roster is so large that he actually needed to drop over 20 pounds to secure his spot in the Volunteers' starting lineup.
Nose guard Daniel McCullers arrived on campus this summer standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 382 pounds. Although the Tennessee roster still officially lists him at 377, McCullers says he is down to his target weight of 360 as he prepares to make his Division I debut Friday at the Georgia Dome against North Carolina State.
McCullers, a junior from Georgia Military College, grew up near North Carolina State's campus and graduated from Southeast Raleigh (N.C.) High School. McCullers didn't consider going to North Carolina State because the Wolfpack recruited him to play offense instead of defense.
