Corps Continues Miss. River Dredging

Posted: Updated:

VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) -- The Army Corps of Engineers says dredging is continuing along the Mississippi River, where drought conditions have threatening river levels.

Kavanaugh Breazeale, spokesman for the Corps' Vicksburg District, says the low water conditions and decreased river flow drastically affect normal sediment movement and make normal dredging extremely difficult.

The Dredge Jadwin is currently working at the Lakeport area on the Mississippi River about 5 miles south of the U.S. Highway 82 bridge near Greenville.

Breazeale says other companies are dredging shallow draft harbors and ports in the area.

Breazeale says the dredging schedule will be adjusted as required.
