NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Downtown vendors said they are being shut out of a major money making business thanks to a new law.
The new ordinance, which local hot-dog vendor Charles Biggs calls the "15 feet away from everything rule" limits where vendors can sell their good in the downtown area.
"We have to be 15 feet away from a corner, 15 feet away from a fire hydrant, a parking meter, stairs going into a business, a doorway going into a business," said Biggs.
This law has forced vendors off the path of the main money source: Broadway.
"That's just where everything happening, that's where everybody's at, that's where all the tourists go, and that's where all the clubs are. That's where all the business is," he explained.
Biggs said being limited to areas like Demonbreun and 5th Ave South has hurt business.
"When you get out of the hot spot; I mean Broadway is the hot spot, that's where we make out money and when you push us away from there the money goes down."
Vendors like Biggs have received multiple citations as they learn their way around the new law. Officials said the ordinance was enacted for safety reasons, but that hasn't helped Biggs.
"Everybody seems to like us begin here, except the powers that be," he said.
