Tropical Storm Leads To Higher Gas Prices In Mid-State

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- While Isaac is wreaking havoc on the Gulf, it's gouging local drivers at the pump.

The average price for fuel in Nashville of regular unleaded is $3.61 per gallon. Experts say they don't expect the prices to go down anytime soon.

That's because Tennessee gets gas from the Gulf Coast region. With Tropical Storm Isaac bearing down it will take time for refinery crews to clean up the mess, and get back to work. Triple-A officials urge residents to reserve fuel when possible.

"All of us going out and getting gas at the same time is really going to intensify the situation. So it would be best if you need gas go get it but if you don't, don't just go out just to get it," said Triple A Representative Jim Lott.

The good news is that refineries usually change their gas formula after Labor Day and that mix is much cheaper.
