Smith Co. School Evacuated After Bathroom Explosion

SMITH COUNTY, Tenn. – An elementary school in Smith County was evacuated after a janitor accidentally caused an explosion.

Officials said a janitor put a cleaner in a toilets at Union Heights Elementary on Thursday morning when a chemical reaction occurred. It splashed onto him, and he was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

Emergency crews were called out and the kids were evacuated, but have since been allowed back into the school.
