NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
One man was killed and a woman taken into custody following a shooting at an
apartment complex near Fisk University.
The shooting happened inside a resident just before 11 p.m. Thursday
night at the Andrew Jackson Apartments on Blank Street in
Nashville.
Investigators with the Metro Nashville Police
Department said 23-year-old Deverya Rose admitted to shooting her boyfriend,
25-year-old Christopher Sims.
Rose
told police she and Sims were fighting when he grabbed her by the hair and put
a gun to her head. She said Sims then pushed her head to the floor.
When
he set the gun down, Rose told investigators she picked it up and shot Sims one
time in the chest. Sims died at the scene.
Police spent hours piecing together clues and said the
evidence was consistent with Rose's claims of self-defense.
The
case was sent to the District Attorney's Office to determine if charges would
be filed.
