Two Mid-State Cities Allow Fireworks Over Labor Day Weekend

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Residents who live in Clarksville and Spring Hill will have a chance to set off fireworks this Labor Day weekend. It is a do-over for a drought stricken 4th of July.

Many cities across the mid-state had burn bans during the July holiday which prevented people from setting off their fireworks.

"They had the ban, so we decided that we couldn't shoot them off, we just had to wait," said Michelle Jones.

That meant a sharp drop in businesses back in July for the businesses who depend on fireworks sales.

"That is our biggest season. Yes, yes it is," said Cathy Grant from Allen's Fireworks.

City leaders in Clarksville voted to allow fireworks to be legally set off within the city limits on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

That had customers stopping by Allen's Fireworks on Ft. Campbell Boulevard Friday evening.

"We're just looking for something to do with the fireworks since we're aloud to do it for Labor Day. Have a little fun with the kids," said customer Wendy Williams.

People living within Spring Hill's city limits will also be able to set off fireworks on Monday, Labor Day from noon until 11:00 p.m.

Areas outside city limits, in the county, usually do not have laws regulating when residents can set off fireworks.
