NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The
Downtown YMCA was forced to close its doors Saturday due to flooding after an
accident.
A group was playing a game
of basketball Friday night when an extra ball rolled onto the court and someone
kicked it out of the way. The kick was so powerful that the basketball went
flying up to the ceiling where it hit a sprinkler head. The sprinkler burst and
caused hundreds of gallons of water to gush out of the pipe.
The court flooded and
water even began leaking from that second floor gym into the first floor locker
rooms and lobby areas. Dozens of electrical panels were also damaged in the
accident.
Crews spent all night and
again Saturday cleaning up the mess. A YMCA spokesperson says they hope to
re-open Sunday afternoon.
