AARP Seeks Help Fighting Hunger In September

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - AARP is asking Tennesseans to participate in its Days of Service campaign by fighting hunger.

Throughout the month of September, AARP volunteers around the state will be serving at local food banks, collecting donations at neighborhood Walgreens stores and educating friends and neighbors about help that is available to feed their families.

The group also is encouraging nonmembers to help by giving food, time and money.

The week of September 9, Walgreens stores across the state will be collecting $1 donations at the cash register. The donations will go to one of five Feeding America food banks across the state.

AARP is offering a free reusable grocery bag to the first 500 people who volunteer.

The campaign runs through September and commemorates 9/11.
