Kingsport Officer Arrested For Fake Email

Posted: Updated:

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) -- A Kingsport police officer is charged with criminal simulation and forgery.

According to a news release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, investigators believe that 35-year-old Bryan Carter impersonated a former employee in sending an email message that accused Police Chief Gale Osborne of misconduct.

The message was sent in May to the district attorney general's office, the TBI, public officials and area news agencies.

The TBI found the allegations to be unfounded. They also found that Carter had sent the message without the knowledge or permission of the former employee he impersonated.

Carter was booked into the Sullivan County Jail on Tuesday and released on $1,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 12.

No number was listed for Carter in the phone directory.
