Army Corps of Engineers To Close Part Of Cumberland River

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Traffic on a big stretch of the Cumberland River will soon come to a halt.

The US Army Corps of Engineers plans to close the Cheatham Lock for an entire month starting in October. Crews will repair damage done during the May 2010 floods.

That means barge traffic and boat traffic will not be able to travel between Nashville and Clarksville. Businesses who use the river to transport material have been busy working ahead and stockpiling supplies, but they aren't the only ones affected. Recreational boating on the Cumberland will also be cut off along that stretch until mid-November.
