MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A Memphis police officer has been struck by a car while directing traffic in front of an elementary school.
According to a news release from the city, the officer, who was not identified, was hit at about 8:20 a.m. Tuesday when the driver of a Dodge Durango drove into the emergency lane to pass stopped vehicles in front of him.
The officer was transported to the Regional Medical Center in non-critical condition.
The driver, 25-year-old Jonathan Ferguson, remained on the scene. He was issued citations for driving with a suspended, revoked or canceled license; violation of the vehicle registration law; driving in the emergency lane; and improper lane change.
