KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A man upset that his car was being towed beat the wrecker driver until he was unconscious.
Knoxville Police Department Investigator Chas Terry told the Knoxville News Sentinel that 48-year-old Ronald Gandy has a contract to tow unauthorized vehicles at a local apartment complex.
Early Monday morning, he began hooking up an unauthorized Lexus sedan when a man came from an apartment claiming the car was his.
When Gandy turned his back on the man, he was attacked, suffering a bleeding brain and fractured face bones. He was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in critical condition.
After beating Gandy, the attacker tried to retrieve the Lexus, but didn't know how to operate the tow truck controls. The man fled on foot.
