NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man mowing a lawn discovered the body of a woman in North Nashville.

The discovery came around 11 a.m. Wednesday at 5th Avenue North and Buchanan Street. 

Terrence Parrish was cutting the grass and he smelled something, but said he thought it was perhaps a dead rodent or a dead snake.

When he finished mowing, Terrence found the body of a woman in an alley filled with weeds.

Police responded to the scene to investigate. Officials said a preliminary investigation revealed that the woman had most likely died due to blunt force trauma.  The woman's body appeared to have been placed in the alleyway overnight.

Officials were working to determine the woman's identity.
