CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Police continue to searching for a suspect who shot two people outside a Montgomery County daycare center.
The shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday on Chapel Street in Clarksville near the Kiddieland Day Nursery.
Jim Knoll with the Clarksville Police Department said a 25-year-old man and another man in the street got into an argument. A 22-year-old woman had just dropped her children off at the daycare. Police said she tried to intervene and stop the argument between the two men.
At some point, four shots were fired, hitting the 25-year-old male three times in the arm and hand, and a bullet also grazed his head.
The 22-year-old woman was in the daycare parking lot and was shot in the hand.
Both individuals were treated and released from Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Officials credited workers with immediately putting the daycare on lock down. No children were injured.
"When the staff realized it had gotten out of control, they immediately locked down doors, and took the children to the back for safety. That is protocol," said Kiddieland Day Nursery owner Connie Parkerson.
It was a sight that still caught some parents off guard when they dropped off their kids.
"When we pulled up, there was police tape, dogs, and evidence markers," said parent Mary Torrence, " it probably looked worse than it actually was."
Police said there was limited cooperation at the scene, but they determined the victims knew each other. It was unclear if they knew the suspect.
