DICKSON, Tenn.- The case against a Dickson County man accused of murdering his mother on Christmas is now headed to the grand jury.

Jurgen Whitfield was charged with second degree murder. On Christmas Eve last year, he called 911, saying he'd found his mother unconscious. Medics rushed her to the hospital, where doctors discovered she'd actually been brutally beaten. She died on Christmas day.

After interviewing her son, and executing a search warrant on their home, Dickson County detectives charged Jurgen with second degree murder. Jurgen Whitfield's attorney says his client has battled severe mental illness all his life.
