Travis Skelton
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville Police have arrested a man in connection with a double shooting outside a day care.
Travis Lamont Skelton, 26, was booked into the Montgomery County jail around 1:30 a.m. Friday, and charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
Police said the shooting occurred around 9:30 a.m. Thursday on Chapel Street near the Kiddieland Day Nursery.
Jim Knoll with the Clarksville Police Department said Skelton and 25-year-old Cedrick Outlaw got into an argument in the street. 22-year-old Nakita Butler, who had just dropped her children off at the daycare, tried to intervene and stop the argument between the two men.
The fight turned physical, and Skelton allegedly opened fire. Outlaw was hit three times in the arm and hand, and a bullet also grazed his head. Butler was shot in the hand.
Both victims were treated and released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Officials credited workers with immediately putting the daycare on lock down. No children were injured.
Police said Outlaw and Butler are in a relationship, and Skelton was formerly in a relationship with Butler, and is the father of her two children.
Skelton was held on $100,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing.
