Preparedness Urged During National Emphasis

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - State safety officials are urging Tennesseans to be prepared.

September is National Preparedness Month, and Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons said people should have a plan in case of natural disaster or security threat.

Officials note that in the past three years, eight presidentially declared disasters have involved well over half of Tennessee.

Tennessee Emergency Management Director James Bassham urges people to make a kit of essentials and keep it ready. Information is available online at http://www.ready.govor by downloading TEMA's ReadyTN smartphone app.
