Director Ryan Smith in Franklin, Tenn. September 9, 2012
FRANKLIN, Tenn.- Middle
Tennessee is putting its name on the map when it comes to film making. A movie
expected to hit theaters next week held its world premiere in Franklin Sunday
night.
"It's a thrill to be here
doing a red carpet premiere in our hometown. I mean this is where I grew up;
this is the theater that I grew up going to, and so it's a cool thing,"
said director Ryan Smith.
Director Ryan Smith is no
stranger to the entertainment world. He grew up in it as the son of Christian
singer Michael W. Smith. His film called "After" follows two people
who wake up after a bus crash and realize they are the only people left in
their small town. To make matters worse, a dark cloud is headed toward them.
Smith filmed the movie in Birmingham, Alabama two years ago, but almost all the
post-production work was done in their downtown Franklin offices.
"I think we're going
to see more and more of these things happening in Nashville. You know we've got
a really great film community here that I think people are just starting to
take notice of. And I hope this is the first of many events like this
here."
The movie will be released
in limited theaters nationwide including the Carmike in Franklin starting
September 14th.
