'Failed Assassination' Trial Set To Begin Monday

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The trial for a man and woman accused of a "failed assassination" of the woman's estranged husband is scheduled to begin on Monday.

Katherine Holmes and Barry Haislip, Jr. were charged with attempted murder after the shooting of Joel Holmes on August 24, 2011.

Police said Joel Holmes had just pulled up to Summit Apartments on Mountainhigh Drive to meet Katherine and exchange the couple's two children.

That's when Barry Haislip allegedly walked up and shot him, point blank in the head.  Holmes was critically injured, but survived the shooting.

Investigators said Haislip and Katherine Holmes planned the attack. Haislip was charged the day after the shooting.

Katherine and the couple's two children were in the parking lot at the time.

The trial is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the Justice A.A. Birch Building.
