LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (AP) - A mother who was accidentally shot by her 11-year-old son has been charged with child neglect.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported 36-year-old Stacy Duggan was booked into the Loudon County jail on Monday.
The boy's father, 37-year-old Daniel Duggan, also was charged in connection with the shooting.
Investigators said the child found the loaded .22 Derringer pistol between the mattress and slats of a bunk bed last week and thought it was a toy.
The father was previously charged with child abuse after his son was injured in a 2011 traffic crash that left the child with motor skills problems.
The father is free on a $2,500 bond pending a November 7 hearing. No bond has yet been set for the mother, who was to be arraigned on Tuesday.
