NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A ring of thieves has been targeting local dealerships for some high-end cars.
Detectives in three counties, Rutherford, Davidson and Williamson are investigating some well-organized thefts. Officials have released some still photos from surveillance cameras at one dealership show the thieves on the lots with a salesperson.
The culprits take test drives in new cars and secretly remove computer chips from the keys. They return after closing and use the chips to steal the cars. Most recently an $80,000 Land Cruiser was stolen from a dealership in Murfreesboro.
Police said the thieves remove the battery to kill the GPS theft protection system and then send the cars overseas for sale. Anyone with information about these thefts was asked to call Murfreesboro Police at (615) 849-2670.
