District Attorney's Office Evacuated After Suspicious Package

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A downtown office building was evacuated after police said a letter containing a suspicious white powder was sent to District Attorney Torry Johnson.

The letter was opened just after 4 p.m. Tuesday. Officers said it was unclear what the powder was, but the 5th floor of the District Attorney's office was evacuated as a precaution.

Metro Police, SWAT and Nashville Firefighters responded to the scene.

An official for the Metro Police said that the substance was found to be non-toxic.

Keith Moses, with the FBI's Nashville office, said the package would be taken to a state laboratory for analysis. Results are not expected to be known before Wednesday.
