CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- Police
in Clarksville say they are seeing children in danger after they're left home alone.
A local mother is facing
charges for leaving her two young children home alone. Police arrested Jennifer Waller
Friday night for child abuse and neglect. Neighbors called police after a seven- year-old
was found wandering the apartment complex alone and couldn't remember where he lived.
With the help of neighbors, police located his home. Inside, they found a baby asleep
in a room, but no adults were there. When Waller returned, she told them she
had gone to the store.
Officers said when the
father of one of the children showed up later, he smelled like marijuana. The
children were turned over to the Department of Children's Services.
Someone also called police
Friday night on Doane Drive after a little four-year-old girl was left home
alone. Police found the child crying on the porch without her parents. When the
child took the officer into the house, he found a loaded .380 caliber handgun
on the table within the child's reach. About 15 minutes later, the child's
mother arrived and told police she was at a neighbor's house. She was cited for
reckless endangerment.
